Welcome to the home page of the Global Network on
Intellectual Property Right (IPR) Research. Click on the links above
to select the information you are interested in. The network is
not exclusive in nature so if you know anyone who might be interested
in what we do, please do not hesitate to forward this web page.
The Global Network of IPR Research is addressing
cutting edge material and controversial issues.
The Global Network on IPR Research serves as a global
platform in which we discuss, share our research output and knowledge
on IPR related matters. Basically, in this network we share the
same fascination and need for understanding the dynamic role of
IPRs for business and society.
In particular, the Global Network on IPR Research
aims to provide profound insight with respect to understanding the
role of IPR regulation in achieving economic performance, growth
and sustainable development at the corporate, sectoral and global
level, at the same time as providing a higher quality of life at
the level of all groups of civilization in all regions of the world.
The Global Network on IPR Research is cutting edge
by addressing current controversial issues affecting businesses,
sectors and society today, and it is cutting edge by putting special
emphasis on those who experience some adverse effects of the IPR
system. Those controversies do also challenge the existing 'thinking'
and analytical frameworks dominating the theoretical literature
on IPRs within law, economics, management, politics and regulation
theory.
A platform for critical thinking
Due to the controversial issues the Global Network
on IPR Research is addressing, the network does not, and should
not, serve as a consensus of opinions. Rather, it serves as a platform
for critical thinking and lively discussions.
History
The 'Global Network on IPR Research' can be viewed
as a spin-off activity from the Global Network for Economics of
Learning, Innovation, and Competence Building Systems (GLOBELICS).
It was at the 1st Globelics conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil,
2-6 November 2003, the need for such a network was discussed and
the network was initiated.
Funding bodies
The network is still at the grassroots level based
upon ideas and passion rather than financial resources. However,
it is hoped that some or all of the participants of this network
are able to raise funding for joint research projects and workshop
activities.
Host institution
Running such a network is not free in terms of financial
resources and time. However, the Global Network on IPR Research
is freely hosted at Birkbeck College,
University of London,
website. In this connection, the network’s web pages receive
technical support from CCS (Central computing services). Furthermore,
the network, as well as the daily running of the web pages, is administrated
for free by Network Manager: Dr
Birgitte Andersen.
